BSF vows firm response to infiltration attempts along LoC, IB in J&K
Srinagar Oct 19: The Border Security Force (BSF) has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
On Sunday, Inspector General of BSF Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, affirmed that any attempt at infiltration or hostile activity along the borders would be dealt with “firmly and decisively.”
Speaking to reporters during a two-day Diwali mela organised at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in central Kashmir’s Budgam, IG Yadav praised the dedication and professionalism of BSF troops deployed along the sensitive border areas.
“Our troops on the LoC and IB are working with unshakable determination, discipline, and unwavering commitment. Their alertness ensures that no attempt at infiltration or cross-border misadventure goes unchecked. We want to reassure the public that the border is secure and our jawans are fully prepared to respond to any threat,” said IG Yadav.
Security agencies typically heighten border vigilance during the onset of winter, as visibility reduces and infiltration attempts from across the border tend to rise. Officials say intelligence inputs suggest continued efforts by terror groups to exploit terrain and weather conditions to push infiltrators across the LoC.
The BSF, in coordination with the Indian Army and other security agencies, has intensified patrolling, surveillance, and use of advanced technology such as thermal imaging and drones to counter such threats. “We are in constant coordination with other security forces. From real-time intelligence sharing to joint operations, all mechanisms are in place to thwart any nefarious activity,” Yadav added.
The Inspector General was speaking on the sidelines of the Diwali mela, a two-day festival organised by the BSF to bring together the families of personnel stationed along the LoC. The event, hosted at the composite hospital and command sub-units of the Frontier Headquarters in Budgam, featured food stalls, cultural programs, traditional games for children, and other festive attractions.
“On behalf of the BSF Kashmir Frontier, I extend my warm Diwali greetings to all citizens. This festival is a celebration of light and togetherness. For many of our personnel who are posted in remote border locations, being with family during festivals is not always possible. This mela is our humble attempt to bring joy and a sense of togetherness to their loved ones here,” IG Yadav said.
The mela was attended by personnel of all ranks, their families, and local dignitaries, creating a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and cultural exchange.
“Teamwork is the backbone of our operations. Events like these bring our personnel and their families together, break barriers across ranks, and reinforce the unity that is essential in our line of duty,” said the IG.
For the families attending, especially those with loved ones currently deployed in forward posts, the mela offered a much-needed moment of celebration and support.
“There are families here whose members are posted in remote and high-risk areas. We understand the emotional toll it can take, especially during festivals. This event is our way of celebrating Diwali with them and recognising their sacrifices too,” Yadav added.
