Broken Promises: Tangwara link road remains unrepaired for years
Langate (Qaziabad), Oct 2: A one-kilometre stretch of the Tangwara link road in the Qaziabad area of Langate constituency has remained in a state of neglect for years, leaving residents of the village frustrated and struggling with poor connectivity. Despite repeated appeals to elected representatives over successive governments, the road continues to deteriorate, affecting daily commuting, agricultural transport, and access to essential services.
According to residents, the road has been repeatedly projected for repairs and blacktopping during Back to Village programmes and other development meetings, but no substantial work has been undertaken. “We raised this issue many times during meetings held by the MLAs and DDC officials over the years, but it is still unattended,” said a group of residents.
Residents recalled that minor repairs were carried out during Er Rashid’s tenure as MLA under the PDP-led government, but no further blacktopping or proper reconstruction was executed. “The last repair work was only superficial. The road condition has worsened over the years, making it almost unusable during rains,” they said.
The poor state of the road has forced visitors and relatives to avoid entering the village with vehicles, adding to the villagers’ frustration. “The road has no proper drainage, and potholes make commuting extremely difficult. It seems Tangwara village has been left off the developmental map,” the residents said.
Despite repeated assurances, the District Development Council chairman’s promises of upgrading and macadamising the road have not materialised. Locals said that a few years ago, the DDC chairman claimed that the project had been merged with the development plan of a nearby village, but no work has been executed to date.
The newly elected MLA of Langate, Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, reportedly visited the village to assess the situation but offered only verbal assurances, according to residents. “Even after his visit, no action has been taken, and the road remains in a deplorable condition,” they added.
Residents stressed that the road is not only vital for daily commuting but also for the transportation of goods, access to healthcare, and connectivity with neighbouring villages. They have appealed to the authorities and elected representatives to prioritise the repair and blacktopping of the road to ensure smooth passage and improve the quality of life in the village.
MLA Langate Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh was not available for comment on the matter.
