Sopore, Dec 4: A serious safety threat looms over Iqbal Market Sopore, near the Jal Shakti office, where several electricity poles are broken and overhead transmission wires remain heavily overloaded. The damaged infrastructure has triggered alarm among shopkeepers and visitors, who fear a major mishap if urgent repairs are not carried out. Locals said the poles have been in a fragile condition for weeks, but despite repeated requests, the Power Department has not taken measures to repair or replace them. The wires, many hanging dangerously low, continue to spark concern.

“By God’s grace, four people, including a woman and her child, narrowly escaped today after a short circuit between two wires,” a shopkeeper said, warning of a potential tragedy.

Traders have appealed to the district administration and PDD for immediate intervention, load management, and replacement of weakened poles before the situation leads to an avoidable disaster.
