BRICS backs strongest call yet for UNSC reform

New Delhi, Jul 7: BRICS leaders have adopted their strongest-ever language on reforming the United Nations Security Council.

The bloc reaffirmed support for a comprehensive overhaul aimed at making the Council more democratic, representative, and responsive to today’s global realities.

It emphasised the need for greater representation from developing nations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, including BRICS members. The declaration also reiterated backing for India and Brazil’s aspirations to play a greater role in the UN system, including permanent membership in the Security Council.
