Breaking Barriers | Keran’s Kulsuma triumphs over trials to NEET success
Kupwara, June 11: Coming from border area Keran and qualifying for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is nothing short of extraordinary for Kulsuma Jaan who, after a hard-fought journey and tremendous dedication, was able to register her success in the recent NEET 2024 results.
Kulsuma from her childhood yearned to be a doctor and that passion inspired her to take her studies seriously.
Kulsuma passed her 10th class from Government Boys Higher Secondary School Karihama with 493 marks in 2020.
After passing her 11th class, Kulsama did not appear in the 12th class examination and instead sat in the exam a year later in 2023.
“I passed my 12th class from the same school with
467 marks, following which I started to prepare for NEET,” she said.
Kulsuma attributed her success to the NEET coaching initiative by the Army which played a pivotal role in her journey.
“After our 12th class results were declared, I came to know that the Army has come up with a free residential NEET coaching initiative at Srinagar. I appeared in the entrance and qualified it,” Kulsama told Greater Kashmir. “I availed the privilege of free NEET coaching at Haftchinar Srinagar which indeed paved the way for me to qualify NEET with 628 points in my first go.”
Kulsuma’s success in NEET has become an inspiration for other girls in Keran.
“Despite facing severe hardships, I qualified for NEET and hopefully other girls in Keran would draw inspiration from my success,” she said. “I am thankful to the Army for coming with free NEET residential coaching. Otherwise, students like me who come from a humble background cannot avail expensive NEET coaching in Srinagar or elsewhere.”
