Kupwara, May 20: Lower Qaziabad in Langate which had a history of boycotting elections Monday broke the shackles and people here came out in good number to exercise their franchise.

People in Yaroo village in Lower Qaziabad came out in good number to take part in democratic setup.

Ashiq Hussin a local said that his village is at walking distance from tehsil headquarters Langate but it lags behind in all basic amenities resulting hardships to the inhabitants.

"I have never ever took part in electoral process before but the miseries being faced by locals here forced me to take to cast my vote. We had been deprived and discriminated by the successive dispensations on the pretext of boycotting elections, so I decided to break the shackles," he added.

As compared to Upper Qaziabad the villages which include Yaroo, Udipora, Ganapora, Soper Naghama, Mandigam, Sahipora, Palpora, Khahipora, Kachloo, Wangam in Lower Qaziabad have shown least interest in exercising their franchise but the scenes were different today.

Notably only few percent of polling was recorded last time in Parliament election in these villages but this time people came out in good number to exercise their franchise.

Mohammad Altaf Dar of Khahipora told Greater Kashmir that the people in his area would never take interest in exercising their franchise but this time people in large number did turn up to polling station and casted their vote.

"I believe people here have now understood the importance of their vote and most importantly youth have taken much interest in this election which otherwise would not be the scene," he added.
