Boy drowns in Sopore stream, another rescued
Sopore/ Ramban Mar 3: A boy died of drowning in a stream in Mundji Zaingair village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district while another was rescued on Sunday. The boys, aged 7 years, were on their way to the local Masjid to attend a religious function when they slipped into the nearby stream.
As soon as the news spread in the area, people rushed to the spot and immediately started a rescue operation.
With the efforts of the locals, one of the two boys was rescued immediately while the search for the other boy continued for 3 to 4 hours.
An official said that a rescue team of the locals and Police was on the job soon after the incident happened in the area.
He identified the duo as Areeb Bashir Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, and Sabiq Mushtaq Mir, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, both residents of Mundaji Zaingair, Sopore.
The official said that Areeb Bashir was rescued and Sabiq’s body was fished out after four hours.
His body was later shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for medico-legal formalities.
Woman dies in Doda
A woman died on spot after heavy rain followed by high-speed winds uprooted the metal roof-sheet of her house and hit her in Bhatmas Bhalessa in Doda district. Officials said, “The woman died on spot after the uprooted roof sheet of her house, during rain and windstorm in Bhatmas Bhalessa hit her Saturday afternoon. She suffered a fatal head injury.”
Police identified the deceased as Suniksha Devi, wife of Pardeep Singh, resident of Bhatmas Bhalessa.
Officials said the rooftops of several houses and cowsheds were damaged due to the windstorm in Bhalessa on Saturday.
