Kathua, Dec 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) Tuesday organised a counselling-cum-awareness camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Bani, in Kathua to educate students about the counselling schedule for admission to various professional courses in J&K for the session 2025-26.

The camp aimed to address the issue of low enrolment and vacant seats in local colleges due to a lack of information and awareness among students about available courses, eligibility criteria, and admission processes.

BOPEE officials and experts interacted with students, addressing their concerns and providing insights on the benefits of pursuing higher education within the state.

The camp highlighted the advantages of studying in local colleges, including lower fees, a familiar environment, and better job opportunities. It also emphasized the importance of filling up vacant seats to avoid wastage of resources and opportunities.

Member BOPEE, Prof Surinder Sharma expressed concern about students opting for colleges outside J&K and facing difficulties. He apprised students about vacancies, courses available, competitive exams required, basic qualification, number of seats, registration process, allotment of seats, and other aspects of the admission process.

The awareness camp was attended by lecturers and teachers with a science stream background, along with students from various schools.

Tehsildar Bani, Predhyum Attri, and the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Bani, were also present on the occasion.

This awareness camp was the first in a series of initiatives planned by BOPEE to reach out to students in the district.

Two more such camps will be organised in the district in the coming days, with the aim of covering all areas and ensuring that a maximum number of students benefit from these initiatives.
