Bolster anti-terrorist grid with heightened intelligence efforts, intensified operations: IGP Birdi

Srinagar, Nov 24: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V. K. Birdi urged officers on Friday to strengthen the anti-terrorist grid through increased intelligence efforts and intensified operations.
He issued these directives to officers during comprehensive security review meetings in south Kashmir's Shopian and Pulwama districts. DIG South Kashmir Rayees Mohammad Bhat and other senior officers were present at the meetings.

A police spokesperson, in a statement, mentioned that the IGP emphasized vigilant surveillance of terrorist associates and decisive legal measures.

"It is crucial to enhance security surveillance of all vital establishments and locations and take care of vulnerable persons to thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists in the areas. The need to maintain strict surveillance over terrorist associates/ANEs and take all necessary measures under the law was reiterated," the statement reads.

During these meetings, the participating officers provided an overview of the steps initiated in their respective districts to counter any challenges and threats faced by inimical elements at the ground level, the spokesperson said.

Additionally, the meetings highlighted a focused initiative against the drug menace. Stressing the need to eliminate drugs from society, IGP Kashmir directed personal supervision of narcotics cases, improving conviction rates, and building robust police-public relationships, especially with the youth.

"Besides, he also directed the officers to build a strong police-public relationship and conduct regular interactive meetings with the general public, as such meetings, particularly with the youth, will not only help in curbing the drug menace but will strengthen the police-public interface. He impressed upon them to develop a mechanism wherein the bond between people and police gets stronger," he said.

GP Kashmir further emphasized that stringent measures shall be taken against social media misuse for inciting violence. He stressed the importance of maintaining close synergy between police and other forces to ensure a peaceful environment.

The meeting in Shopian was attended by SP Shopian Tanushree, Addl. SP Shopian Naresh Singh, and other senior officers. Similarly, in Pulwama, the meeting was attended by SSP Pulwama Mohammad Yousif, Addl. SP Pulwama Tanveer Ahmad, and other senior officers of the district.
