New Delhi, Sep 07: Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, designed to transport astronauts to and from the International Space Station (ISS), has started on its journey back to Earth. It takes around six hours to return and entering the craft into the atmosphere again will be a litmus test for Boeing.

The mission has encountered significant setbacks, leading to the decision to return the spacecraft without its intended passengers.

Originally set to carry NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams back to Earth, the Starliner capsule has been deemed too risky for this purpose due to a series of technical malfunctions as reported by the international media.

According to a report from BBC, the Starliner capsule has been switched to autonomous mode and successfully undocked from the ISS. Its return journey, which will last approximately six hours, will conclude with a landing at White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico. Despite the complications, NASA has reassured the public that both astronauts remain in good spirits and are maintaining regular contact with their families.
