Body of Anantnag youth recovered from Chenab river

Ramban, Feb 19: Ramban Police today recovered a body from river Chenab in the Seri area of Ramban.

Police sources said a floating body was noticed by some passersby. They informed the police. On getting the information police and volunteers reached the spot fished out the body and shifted it to the mortuary of District Hospital Ramban for identification.

Later Police identified the deceased as Ravinder Singh son of the Mahinder Singh resident of Srangsoo, Anantnag who jumped into river Chenab a month ago at Karool.

It is pertained to mention here that on January 14 while travelling in a car from Jammu to Srinagar Ravinder Singh had parked his car bearing registration number JK01U-3157 near the Jaswal Bridge, Karool alongside Jammu -Srinagar National Highway and jumped into the river Chenab and had got washed away.

After a gap of more than one month, the body of the deceased man was retrieved around 8 km away in the Seri area of Ramban on Monday morning.

SHO Police Station Ramban Inspector Vijay Kotwal said after conducting postmortem and other legal formalities the body of the deceased was handed over to his family for last rites.
