Srinagar, Oct 1: In a series of events under the visionary leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), the Health Centre and DSW, in collaboration with Government L D Hospital Srinagar, organised a blood donation camp at PEB-I Hall, Main Campus Tulmulla, to mark National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.

This day is celebrated annually to raise awareness about the importance of blood and the need for voluntary blood donation. The Registrar of the University, Prof Mohammed Afzal Zargar, inaugurated the event along with the Dean of the School of Education, Prof Zahoor Ahmad Geelani; the Dean of Students Welfare, Dr Irfan Alam; Health Centre staff, Dr Sheeba, Dr Abid, and Dr Sarwat Muzaffar, Blood Bank Officer, and others from L D Hospital Srinagar. Approximately 51 pints of blood were donated by participants, including staff and students of the university.

In another event, the Central University of Kashmir's Rajbhasha Cell successfully organized ‘Hindi Pakhwada’ from September 14 to 29 at the Green Campus. The event included Hindi noting, drafting, letter, and essay writing competitions, along with other administrative tasks.

A valedictory function was held in which awards and participation certificates were distributed by the Registrar of the University, Prof M Afzal Zargar, and the Finance Officer of the University, Dr Mehraj Ud Din Shah. During the event, Dr Sakina, Hindi Adhikari, welcomed all participants and discussed the importance of organizing such events for upskilling and promoting the use of Hindi among the university's administrative staff. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Huma Ahangar, Senior Assistant Librarian.

The NSS unit of CUK organized a quiz competition titled "Reimagine and Reuse: The Art of Best Out of Waste" to promote recycling and sustainability. Dr Shahnaz Akhtar, NSS Programme Officer, highlighted the importance of responsible waste management. Three groups from different departments participated, showcasing their knowledge of recycling and sustainability. Dr Shahid Sultan, NSS Programme Officer, served as the judge for the quiz, ensuring fair evaluation and sharing insightful observations that enriched the learning experience for all participants. The event aligned with the "Swachhata Hi Seva" mission, raising environmental awareness among students.

In a parallel event, the Central University of Kashmir's Department of Religious Studies held an online lecture on "Contribution of Jainism to Indian Society." Prof Pradyumna Shah Singh, a renowned scholar from the Department of Jain Baudh Darshan at Banaras Hindu University, delivered the lecture, focusing on Jainism's influence on non-violence, ethics, and environmental consciousness. He emphasized overcoming internal struggles and highlighted Jainism's values of dialogue and pluralism. The event saw participation from students, scholars, and faculty, concluding with a question-and-answer session. Dr Harpal Singh, Assistant Professor, DRS CUK, welcomed the guest, and Dr. Nazir Ahmad Zargar, Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator at the DRS, gave a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions to the event's success.
