BJP’s loud win in 3 states sets stage for NDA alliance dominance in 2024

New Delhi, Dec 3: As India gears up for its upcoming mega-national election season next year, the Sunday concluded State assembly election results have already set the stage for what many believe will be Narendra Modi's triumphant return as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term in the April-May 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The results of the five State assembly elections, held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram, and Telangana throughout November, have left an indelible mark on the political landscape.
Almost unanimously, pollsters and opposition analysts have acknowledged, either directly or indirectly, the looming return of Narendra Modi to the country’s top office in 2024.

Top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the probable Chief Ministers of the states won by the party attribute their success to the “Modi Magic” and emphasise the widespread acceptance of Modi's leadership amongst the masses, not only within India but also among the Indian diaspora residing outside the country.

These five State elections, dubbed as semifinals or considered a crucial dress rehearsal before the final act in the 2024 general elections, the outcomes of the State elections and the increasing BJP vote share across the country underscore the dominance of the BJP.

The party secured a landslide victory in all three Hindi belt states, with the leaders confidently declaring that the results were a testament to the overwhelming support for Modi.
M J Akbar, former junior foreign minister and Rajya Sabha member, expressed his views on ‘X’ former Twitter, stating, “PM Modi has led the triumph of good governance over family politics… stage is set for 2024.”

Despite Congress securing a victory in Telangana and Karnataka, the party faced significant setbacks, losing Chhattisgarh and performing below expectations in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
With less than four months remaining until the national elections, political pundits anticipate an extensive campaign led by Modi, supported by Amit Shah, traversing all states and union territories to secure votes for the BJP.

The BJP’s resounding success in the three Hindi belt states serves as a blueprint for the party and its allies, signalling a potential third consecutive term in government as the nation prepares for the culmination of the electoral drama in 2024.

CONGRESS ENDS KCR’S DOMINANCE IN TELANGANA, BJP EMERGES AS DARK HORSE WITH 7 SEATS

The political landscape in Telangana held in a firm grip by the Bharat Rashtra Samiti's (BRS) K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) since its formation in 2014, witnessed a significant shift as the Congress wave finally brought an end to KCR's reign in the state.

In a three-way battle for Telangana, the election results revealed Congress emerging victorious. However, the BJP made unprecedented gains, securing seven seats, signalling a formidable presence in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Poll analysts predict that the BJP is poised to clinch several parliamentary seats in Telangana, making it a force to be reckoned with and making its way further in South India.

The people of Telangana are closely monitoring the outcomes and have a lot of expectations from the Congress and the development of the state. While it is a setback for the Bharat Rashtra Samiti, the dark horse in the race is undoubtedly the BJP, which has surged from one seat in the last elections to an impressive seven seats in the state.

In the latest tally, Telangana Congress has secured 64 seats out of 119 assembly seats, while BRS has managed to secure 39 seats. The BJP's winning eight seats, underscores a shift in political dynamics in the state, setting the stage for an intense political landscape leading up to the next Lok Sabha elections.

BJP SECURES THUMPING MAJORITY IN CHHATTISGARH, SURPRISING ELECTION RESULTS UNFOLD

In a stunning turn of events, the BJP has made a triumphant return in Chhattisgarh, securing a thumping majority in the state. Despite a marginal three to five percent difference in vote share between Congress and BJP, the latter emerged as the dominant force.

Out of the 90 seats at stake, the BJP clinched an impressive 54, leaving Congress with 35 seats and the Gondvana Gantantra Party (GGP) securing one seat. The results have raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about the political dynamics in the state.

Noted journalist Sheela Bhatt, with decades of experience covering elections, shared her insights on ‘X’, highlighting the surprising nature of the Chhattisgarh election results. She said, “Most interesting and surprising election results turned out to be #Chhattisgarh. @mansukhmandviya was in charge and was confident of winning throughout the campaign. He camped in C’garh for a month. He didn’t visit his home in Saurashtra in the Diwali week."

The outcome was particularly shocking for the Congress, which had anticipated a tough competition with the BJP. Despite securing 43 percent of the votes, the Congress fell short as the BJP garnered 46 percent, solidifying its hold on the state. The results signify a significant political shift in Chhattisgarh, leaving political analysts and observers eager to delve into the dynamics that contributed to this unexpected turn of events.

BJP POISED FOR 5TH CONSECUTIVE TERM IN MP, DEFYING ANTI-INCUMBENCY CHALLENGES

The BJP is on the cusp of securing its fifth consecutive term in power in Madhya Pradesh, exhibiting a commanding lead with victories in 163 seats. In comparison, the Congress trails with wins in 66 seats, and
others securing one seat in the 230-member assembly.

The election results carry a distinctive title for the Chief Minister: ‘Jhoome to Chauhan’, symbolising the victory over anti-incumbency sentiments.
Contrary to the expectations of anti-incumbency factors influencing the election, the people of Madhya Pradesh have opted for continuity under the leadership of the BJP. The state has been under the governance of Chief Minister 'Mama' Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who hails from the Budhni constituency.

Key players in this resounding victory include Jyotiraditya Scindia, whose influence played a pivotal role in securing BJP votes in the Chambal areas, previously dominated by the Congress. Additionally, the massive support from women voters significantly contributed to the BJP's success.

The Congress, led by Kamal Nath and employing a soft Hindutva approach, struggled to match the leadership and expanding influence of the BJP. The magnitude of the BJP's victory in Madhya Pradesh surpassed poll opinions and expectations, dealing a substantial blow to the Congress. The election outcome solidifies the BJP's dominance in the state and sets the stage for a historic fifth consecutive term in power.

BJP SECURES MASSIVE VICTORY IN RAJASTHAN, CONGRESS CM TO RESIGN

In an electoral shift, the BJP has emerged victorious in Rajasthan, surpassing the ruling Congress by a substantial margin in the state known for its historical tradition of alternating between the two major parties.

In the 199-seat assembly of Rajasthan, the BJP has clinched a resounding victory with wins in 115 seats, while the Congress secured 69 seats, and others claimed 15. With the BJP's triumph, the crucial question arises: who will be the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan?

Notably, Divya Kumari, the BJP candidate from Vidyadhar Nagar Jaipur, emerges as a prominent female contender for the CM's position in Rajasthan. The BJP's decisive victory in the state marks a shift in political dynamics, signalling a change in leadership and paving the way for a new era in Rajasthan's political landscape.

The election results saw Rajasthan Speaker C P Joshi, a prominent Congress heavyweight, lose to Vishvaraj Singh of the BJP. However, Congress leader Sachin Pilot managed to secure victory in Tonk. In response to the electoral outcome, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot is set to submit his resignation to Governor Kalraj Mishra late evening.

The longstanding rift between Congress CM Gehlot and tall leader Sachin Pilot has been a defining feature of Rajasthan's political landscape. As the BJP supporters flooded the streets with chants of ‘Modi,
Modi’ accompanied by balloons and saffron flags, attention turned to potential candidates for the chief ministership.

MIZORAM VOTE COUNT POSTPONED FOR A DAY

While the four states saw the culmination of their electoral processes, the northeast state of Mizoram, under the leadership of CM Zoramthanga since 2018, is yet to witness the counting of votes.
Initially scheduled for release on December 3, the results for Mizoram were deferred by a day, a decision made by the Election Commission. This alteration in the counting date follows protests organised by the Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC).

The committee expressed dissatisfaction over counting taking place on December 3, as it coincides with Sunday, a revered day for Christians.
Most exit polls anticipate a closely contested battle between the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) in Mizoram. Both regional parties remain optimistic about securing an absolute majority to establish the next government in the state. The postponement of the counting date adds a layer of anticipation to the unfolding political scenario in Mizoram.
