BJP seeks deportation of B’deshi, Rohingyas from Jammu

Jammu, Apr 16: Questioning the “settlement of Rohingyas, Bangladeshis specifically into the Jammu city”, BJP MLA from Bahu, Choudhary Vikram Randhawa Wednesday described it as a “conspiracy to change the demography” of region and called for their “complete and immediate deportation.”

Randhawa, in a press conference, said, “The mushrooming of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas has emerged as a serious concern vis-à-vis the security and demographic change threats in Jammu. Though this problem has engulfed the entire Jammu region, my Bahu assembly constituency, in particular, is badly affected.”

He cautioned against those persons, who, he alleged, “provided shelter to these Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in their plots.”

“Some persons have even settled these Rohingyas in the ‘Jhuggis’ raised on the State lands. They are collecting rent from these illegal settlers. Electricity and water supplies should be cut from these illegal settlements. The persons giving shelter to these persons should be identified and dealt with an iron hand,” MLA Bahu demanded.

“They have been found involved in drug smuggling; thefts and immoral trafficking in the region. I shared this security threat with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who expressed concern and assured measures,” he said.

Calling for strict and swift action by the Lieutenant Governor; Chief Minister and the administration, Randhawa also called for cooperation from the local people “by not employing these Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in their homes and commercial establishments.”

“Just a few families of Rohingyas have grown into thousands. The mushrooming population is gaining access to the vital services and it raises many concerns in the local populace. Many of them, now born in Jammu, have gained admissions into the schools. During ‘Jammu Bachao Andolan’, we found these families even possessing Aadhar cards and ration cards, which were submitted to the administration at that point of time,” he alleged.

BJP MLA said that following his party’s protests at every forum, on the roads and through the ‘Jammu Bachao Andolan’, many Bangladeshis and Rohingyas were arrested. “But their number is still multiplying. We demand they should be deported from India, back to their original habitat,” Randhawa said.

He asked the Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Jammu and SDM South to identify the owners of plots sheltering them; verify their revenue records for their ownership, check for their rent records and make these persons pay for crimes.
