BJP responds to Jama’at-e-Islami, says decision of joining mainstream a “welcome step”

Srinagar, May 16: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday welcomed the decision of banned Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir of becoming part of mainstream politics. The party stated that every individual or organization is allowed to carry out activities freely within the ambit of law.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, BJP senior leader and former minister Sunil Sharma welcomed the decision of banned socio-politico-religious organization Jama’at-e-Islami J&K in which it had stated that the party will take part in Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir if ban imposed in 2019 will be lifted. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime there is no left right stream allowed, except to exhibit confidence on mainstream. There is no option to go here and there. Any individual or organization can come and carry out activities within the ambit of law,” Sharma stated.

He however said those involved in anti-national activities and inimical to peace and integrity of the nation won’t be spared unpunished.

“BJP welcomes the decision made by Jama’at-e-Islami J&K yesterday. It is really a good step,” Sharma said, and added, “No delegation of JeI is going to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on his arrival in Srinagar today”.

Responding to a query, Sharma said that voter turnout on May 13 in Srinagar Parliamentary Segment was a “big success” of Government of India’s schemes and policies it implemented in Jammu & Kashmir after August 2019, and the outcome of Article 370 abrogation. “The Home Minister’s visit is aimed to improve the voter turnout in upcoming electoral phases and ensure peaceful atmosphere in the region. Though the visit is purely apolitical, but party leadership and workers are likely to meet Home Minister during his Srinagar visit,” Sharma added.
