BJP confident about securing 400 seats for NDA in Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi, Apr 30:  As the Lok Sabha elections campaign for the third phase unfolds across India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious target, aiming to secure over 400 seats in the parliament.

This assertion by the Home Minister and reiterated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today underscores the party’s confidence in its electoral prospects.

Addressing the media today in Assam, Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the overwhelming response observed in key states like Assam, Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh in the first two phases.

He emphasized the positive trends witnessed in the first two phases of voting, projecting a strong performance for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in these regions.

During a press conference in Assam today, the Home Minister expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral performance, stating, “With the support and blessings of the public, we are poised to exceed 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.”

Amit Shah further elaborated on the party’s prospects, highlighting significant responses in Assam, Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh. Conversely, he noted that Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana are showing promising signs, based on observed trends in the voting patterns of the first two phases.

In a separate media report, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath asserted on Tuesday that the polling conducted across 191 Lok Sabha seats indicates a favourable outcome for another term for the Narendra Modi government, with the BJP-led NDA poised to secure 400 seats.

Adityanath confidently declared that Uttar Pradesh, with its 80 constituencies, will wholeheartedly contribute to this victory, expressing his belief that the state will “gift” all its seats to Modi. These remarks were made during his address at an election rally in the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, where he lent his support to BJP candidate Nirmal Kumar Saha.

However, the BJP’s bold aspirations face criticism and scepticism from opposition parties, particularly the Congress. The Congress alleges that the BJP’s pursuit of over 400 seats aims to facilitate constitutional amendments, including the abolition of reservation—a charge vehemently denied by Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during their respective campaign rallies.

The political discourse intensifies as Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh brings attention to past statements by RSS and BJP leaders regarding reservation policies. Ramesh, according to media reports, accuses the BJP of attempting to undermine reservation for marginalized communities, citing historical remarks from key figures within the party and its ideological parent, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Amit Shah through his press conference today urged the public to disregard the Congress’ allegations that the BJP-led NDA seeks over 400 seats to amend the constitution, labelling it as a fabricated falsehood aimed at stirring unrest.
