BJP celebrates Rajya Sabha poll victory, party hails ‘historic win’
Srinagar, Oct 24: Jubilant scenes unfolded at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Jawahar Nagar on Friday evening as party leaders and workers celebrated their victory in the Rajya Sabha elections, where Sat Sharma secured one of the four seats from Jammu and Kashmir.
The celebrations, marked by cheers, slogans, and the distribution of sweets, reflected the party’s joy at what leaders described as a “symbolic and strategic win” in a highly competitive contest dominated by the National Conference (NC).
Among those present at the celebration were Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, Rajya Sabha winner Sat Sharma, and several senior BJP functionaries and workers from both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Addressing enthusiastic party workers, Sat Sharma expressed gratitude for the support and discipline shown by BJP legislators and cadres. “This victory belongs to every karyakarta (worker) who stood firm with the party’s ideology and worked tirelessly despite political pressures,” Sharma said, drawing loud applause from the crowd. He added that the win was not just personal, but a reflection of the BJP’s growing footprint in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape. “Securing a Rajya Sabha seat from Jammu and Kashmir post-Article 370 is a historic achievement. It shows that the people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership continues to grow,” he said.
Sunil Sharma, BJP’s Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly, hailed the result as a testament to the party’s organizational strength and unity. “This win, despite the odds, proves that the BJP is not just a party but a disciplined movement built on conviction and commitment,” he said. Sharma thanked party legislators for their “unwavering loyalty” and said the result would energize the BJP ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. “The National Conference had the numbers, but we had the determination. This victory demonstrates that our unity and belief in the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are unshakeable,” he said.
BJP workers, many waving saffron flags and chanting slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai”, described the win as a morale booster for the party in Kashmir.
“This is not just a political victory — it’s emotional for us,” said Rakesh Gupta, a party worker from Srinagar. “It shows that the BJP can win even in difficult terrain if it stays united and focused.”
Another worker said the victory would help dispel misconceptions about the BJP’s standing in Kashmir. “People often say the BJP has no acceptance in the Valley, but this result sends a different message. We are here to serve every citizen of J&K, without bias,” she said. The celebration at the Jawahar Nagar office continued late into the night, with senior leaders interacting with party members and extending congratulations to Sat Sharma. Workers burst firecrackers, distributed sweets, and played patriotic songs as the office compound turned into a festive gathering.
The BJP’s win came amid reports of cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha polls, which saw the National Conference win three of the four seats. Despite being numerically weaker, the BJP managed to clinch one seat — a result widely seen as a strategic and morale-boosting victory for the party in the Union Territory.
