BIS takes NIT Srinagar students on industrial visit to JSW Steel Plant Pulwama
Pulwama, Aug 30: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organised an industrial visit for 80 students of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, NIT Srinagar, to the JSW Steel Plant, Lasipora, Pulwama. The visit was aimed at providing practical exposure to Indian Standards and steel manufacturing processes.
Accompanied by faculty members Dr Aravi Muzaffar and Dr Irfan Samad Wani, the students witnessed manufacturing of pre-painted galvanized steel sheets and aluminium-zinc alloy coated steel sheets, produced in compliance with BIS standards IS 14246 and IS 15965.
BIS Deputy Director Saaqib Raahi briefed students on the technical aspects of these standards, their testing methods, and regulatory importance. He urged students to cite BIS standards in research work for greater academic value. A live demonstration of the BIS portal further acquainted students with easy access to standards for study and practical use.
