Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary: President, Vice President, Speaker, Home Minister pay tributes
New Delhi, Nov 15: President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led floral tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament complex on Saturday.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Members of Parliament, former MPs and other dignitaries also joined the ceremony held on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, marking the birth anniversary of the tribal icon.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah also paid homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
In messages posted on X, Shah described Birsa Munda as a source of pride not only for the tribal community but for the entire nation. He said the country is celebrating the occasion with great enthusiasm while honouring Birsa Munda’s role in the freedom struggle and his defence of the motherland. In another post, Shah referred to Birsa Munda as “Dharti Aba,” calling him a symbol of tribal identity and a great freedom fighter. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accorded special recognition by commemorating his birth anniversary as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. Shah said Birsa Munda inspired tribal communities to safeguard their culture and rights, united them against colonial rule and sparked the Ulgulan movement. His life, he added, remains a lasting source of inspiration for all patriots.
