Srinagar, Jul 2: Patients at SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina have complained that their basic tests were not being carried out at the hospital this week and they were forced to approach private labs for these. However, the Principal of the Medical College said the problem was resolved at a ‘lightning speed’, after procuring a machine part from another state, setting a malfunctioning equipment in order.

“The tests have resumed now,” Principal of the Medical College, Prof Fazl Qadi Parray said. He said a machine part had developed a snag. “It was a machine part that had to be procured from Chennai. We expedited its procurement to avoid having to tell patients to get the tests done from elsewhere,” he said. He further said that patient-care was the priority and tests were resumed in “just one day”.

Patients had complained that no biochemistry investigations were being carried out at the hospital since Monday. “The common tests like KFT, LFT, Lipid Profile are not being provided. We were asked to get these tests done from outside the hospital,” a patient had told Greater Kashmir.

The issue had put patients coming in from far off places to this hospital in jeopardy. In addition, admitted patients too faced inconvenience due to the non-availability of the biochemistry tests, although later the administration reportedly sent the samples to other hospitals and got the reports of patients.
