During the last visit, the Jammu University was awarded NAAC A+ grade in 2016. Earlier this year, Jammu University went up by at least 13 slots to figure at rank 50 from the previous year’s (2023) rank of 63 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking.
Earlier this month, the Chancellor of the varsity, Manoj Sinha re-appointed the incumbent VC Prof Umesh Rai as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu for a term of three years.
Professor Umesh Rai from the University of Delhi was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Jammu University (JU) on March 20 of 2022, for a period of three years “with effect from the date he takes over the charge.”
The J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who is also the Chancellor of J&K Universities congratulated the University of Jammu for achieving “prestigious A++ Grade with CGPA of 3.72."
“The Jammu University has achieved the prestigious A++ Grade with a CGPA of 3.72 on a seven-point scale by NAAC. Heartiest congratulations to the Vice Chancellor, faculty, staff, scholars and students for this outstanding accomplishment. You’ve made J&K proud,” J&K LG wrote on his X handle.
“Jammu University’s reform-driven futuristic vision underscores its commitment to fostering academic excellence, goal oriented research, innovative capacity & holistic development of students to make them enlightened citizens. My best wishes to all for success in your mission,” he said.
Addressing the media persons, the Jammu University Vice Chancellor said after figuring among the top 50 universities in India in NRF ranking, A++ grade awarded by NAAC peer team was another major achievement. "And this NAAC award substantiates the NIRF ranking position. Jammu University has created history in the J&K to be the first university accredited by NAAC with A++ grade," Prof Umesh Rai told media persons.
The VC JU said the varsity entered into the 4th cycle of NAAC reaccreditation in which only eight universities have been accredited A++ grade in India in the last three years.
"Jammu University is at the number 4th given our CGPA score 3.72," the VC JU said. The CGPA score has improved from 3.51 to 3.72 as compared to the last NAAC grading.
The Vice Chancellor said the "big achievement" would not have been possible without the support of the government.
"When I requested the Chief Minister that my NAAC team was coming, he arranged a dinner for the team. The Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister were also present there. And later the Chancellor of J&K Universities Manoj Sinha also arranged a dinner for the team," he said.
He said such positive gestures shown by the government (elected) and the Chancellor, showcases their commitment towards the education sector.
"The government is working together to promote education institutions. And JU being accredited with A++ grade is the outcome of the government support towards this institution," he said.
The VC said the NAAC A++ grade demonstrates the varsity's commitment to quality assurance, quality sustenance and enhancement.
"We have achieved a very high grade on the student satisfaction survey as well," he said.
A University official said that there were seven parameters assessed by the NAAC team. "We have scored a full four out of four points in the parameters like governance, leadership and management, on infrastructure and learning resources," the University official said.
