Bharatpol receives 16 Interpol requests
New Delhi, Feb 4: The newly launched Bharatpol portal which is one month old has already processed 16 requests for Interpol notices, eight references seeking assistance from foreign law enforcement agencies, and 30 requests from international agencies seeking help from Indian authorities.
The portal, launched on January 7, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to enhance cooperation between Indian and global law enforcement agencies in tackling transnational crimes.
Bharatpol is designed to assist in cases related to organised crime, narcotics trafficking, illegal migration, cybercrime, economic fraud, child exploitation, and terrorism. The portal currently features five key modules:
Connect Module: Links the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol, with law enforcement agencies across the country.
Broadcast Module: Enables quick dissemination of criminal intelligence and assistance requests from foreign agencies to Indian authorities.
INTERPOL References Module: Facilitates Indian law enforcement in seeking international assistance for investigations abroad.
INTERPOL Notices Module: Streamlines the process for requesting Interpol notices.
Resources Module: Provides access to documents and training materials for capacity building.
The details were shared by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
The portal connects 51 law enforcement agencies including Jammu and Kashmir Police, Ladakh Police and nearly all central police and paramilitary and over 500 unit offices across India, linking Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs) from states, union territories, and central agencies with the CBI for coordinated operations.
A training session was held at CBI headquarters following the launch to familiarize ILOs with the portal and international police cooperation mechanisms. Additional in-person training programmes are planned, with the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad conducting awareness sessions to ensure effective use of the platform.
