Bemina flyover thrown open for vehicular movement
Srinagar, June 27: The long-awaited Bemina flyover was thrown open for vehicular movement bringing relief to commuters on the Bypass.
Ashaq Ahmad, Executive Engineer ( Bypass division) of the Roads and Buildings Department told Greater Kashmir that the flyover is open now for the public.
"In the peak hours, 50 vehicles will ply on the flyover per minute while over 25 to 30 vehicles will ply in the late hours,” he said.
He said that minor works on the service roads are ongoing and will be completed soon, ensuring smoother traffic flow.
"This flyover was completed in a record time of two years. All vehicles will ply from tomorrow. There would not be a traffic congestion at the Bemina junction, which has been a long-standing issue for commuters and residents alike, “he said.
The project, which spans approximately 900 meters and cost an estimated Rs 96.97 crore, was completed in a record time of just two years. Local residents and commuters have expressed their relief and optimism about the new flyover.
Farooq Ahmed, a daily commuter, said, "the traffic congestion at Bemina junction was unbearable, especially during peak hours. Now, it feels like a breath of fresh air."
Rafiq Bhat, a resident of Bemina said this is a positive development for the public. "I feel good. I won’t face traffic jams near this particular junction, " he said.
