Bear attack leaves Handwara woman dead

Kupwara, July 30: A middle-aged woman lost her life after she came under a ferocious attack by a wild bear in Mirpora, Qalamabad area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday.

A senior Police officer said that the deceased woman was doing some work in a nearby garden when she was attacked by a wild bear.

The passersby while responding to the screams of the woman rushed towards the spot and shifted her to a hospital in Qalamabad but the doctors there declared her dead.

The deceased woman has been identified as Zareefa Begum, wife of Farooq Ahmed Khan of Mirpora, Qalamabad.

Locals of the area alleged that they had already intimated the Wildlife Department officials to set up a trap for the wild bear but their pleas went unnoticed which led to the unfortunate incident.
