Be alert to ensure successful elections: IGP Kashmir to personnel ahead of 5th phase of polling

Srinagar, May 19: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi on Sunday directed his force to be alert while displaying professionalism to ensure successful elections.

Accompanied by DIG North Kashmir (NKR), Vivek Gupta, the IGP met all the district police chiefs and other zonal and sector police officers ahead of the 5th phase of India's Parliamentary Elections 2024. North Kashmir's Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency will also be voting tomorrow.

The IGP also checked the distribution of polling material even as he supervised the polling parties as they dispatched, said an official handout.

The Kashmir police chief was also briefed about "the deployment plans, security and contingency arrangements and polling party management," read the handout.

He was also informed about the measures taken by police to ensure "free, fair, and peaceful elections."

Earlier today DGP R. R. Swain and IGP Kashmir also visited Heerpora in south Kashmir's Shopian where they also reviewed the security after a former Sarpanch was gunned down last night.
