Bhaderwah, Dec 25: To give furtherance to the Prime Minister resolve to eliminate Tuberculosis from the country by 2025, Distric Jail Bhaderwah became the first jail in India where adult BCG vaccine was administered to 94 inmates under National Tuberculosis elimination programme.

District Immunization and Tuberculosis officer Dr Versha Sharma said that WHO South-East Asian Regional Office (SEARO), which has set the deadline to end TB in the South-East Asia Region by 2030. But the government’s commitment to “End TB by 2025” was articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the “End TB Summit” held in New Delhi in March 2018 and was reaffirmed at the “One World TB Summit” in Varanasi on World TB Day 2023.

After screening of the inmates belonging to different age categories and those with some ailments, we administered vaccine among 94 inmates under recently launched ‘Adult Immunization Programme’ in District Doda.

Superintendent Jail Hamid-ullah Naik said that Bhaderwah Jail is the first jail in India where adult BCG was carried out today and for this “we are thankful to DC Doda and District Immunization officer for extending the campaign for the inmates.”
