Baramulla Stars ascend to glory as Women's Premier League Champions
Baramulla, Nov 3: On a sunny day with a cold wind blowing, the women's cricket team of Baramulla Stars displayed an extraordinary performance to clinch the title of the Women's Premier League 2023 cricket tournament.
In the final match held on Friday, they defeated the Budgam Cricket Club by a resounding nine wickets.
Baramulla Stars won the toss and decided to field first, a decision that proved to be a game-changer. The Budgam Cricket Club scored just 73 runs in the allotted 12 overs, losing eight wickets in the process.
While chasing the target, the Baramulla Stars showcased their dominance till the players remained on the pitch. They confidently played their innings and emerged victorious in just 10 overs, losing only one wicket in the process.
The winning shot, a magnificent boundary, marked the end of the game and secured the title for the Baramulla Stars.
The Baramulla Stars lost their first wicket, that of Wajida, who contributed 20 runs to the total. However, Snober remained not out on an electrifying 44 runs, scored in just 25 balls. Insha Bashir also remained not out, contributing two runs from four balls.
During the presentation, Snober was felicitated with the title of Player of the Match as her explosive 44 runs played a pivotal role in her team's triumph. On the other side, Sadiya Wani of the Budgam team was declared the best batter as well as the Player of the Series.
The Women's Premier League 2023 cricket tournament, organised annually by the Indian Army's Dagger Division, commenced last week, with all the matches being played at the Showkat Ali Stadium in Baramulla. The tournament saw participation from eight teams representing different districts.
Major General Rajesh Sethi, GoC 19 Infantry Division was the chief guest at the occasion. He commended the organisers, players, and supporters for their unwavering commitment to promoting women's cricket. He emphasised that such competitions play a vital role in nurturing talent and encouraging gender equality in sports.
