Srinagar, Sep 15: The Indian Army Sunday said that it has gunned down three terrorists in north Kashmir’s Baramulla while terming the operation as a “blow to terror networks in J&K.”

Army’s Sector Commander, Sanjay Kannoth in a press briefing said that the operation was based on specific intelligence about the movement of unidentified terrorists in the Chak Tapar Kreeri area.

Kannoth said that the army had been monitoring “potential terrorist movements in the Baramulla district for some time. On September 13, following credible intelligence, security forces launched an operation in Chak Tapar Kreeri, news agency KNS reported.

An encounter broke out when the terrorists, who had taken refuge in an abandoned building, were confronted by the army.

The forces conducted the operation with precision, ensuring no harm came to civilians or property,” he said.

"The operation continued into the morning, with our troops engaging the terrorists in a very professional manner. They were neutralized without causing any collateral damage to civil life or property," Kannoth said.

“The operation resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition,” he added.

Kannoth also paid tribute to the army personnel killed during a previous operation in Kishtwar, Jammu Division.

"I express my deep respect and reverence for our brave colleagues who made the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army in the operation in Kishtwar of Jammu Division yesterday," he said, acknowledging the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region.

Commander Kannoth highlighted the success of the operation as a major setback for "Pakistan's alleged attempts to disrupt peace in the Kashmir Valley.”

He said that the killing of three terrorists in Baramulla was a major success for the forces.
