Srinagar, July 22: The Baramulla district in north Kashmir has taken a lead in innovative teachings as the administration has established around 18 innovative laboratory schools in the district.

The move is aimed at focusing on innovative teaching techniques and improving learning outcomes of the students. The success story has got a mention in the economic survey of India tabled by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a day ahead of the Union Budget presentation.

Notably, the Baramulla district won the prestigious PM Award for excellence in Public Administration 2022 under the Aspirational District Program category. “The initiatives in Baramulla showcase the transformative impact of targeted interventions under the ADP, significantly improving health and education outcomes,” the Economic Survey reads. The survey states that the north Kashmir district has addressed its challenging topography and harsh weather by establishing birth waiting wards in Uri and Boniyar which is benefiting 20,000 pregnant women.

“Severe acutec malnutrition and moderate acute malnutrition rates declined to near-zero levels through monitoring with Poshan tracker tabs,” it reads. It reads that the educational initiatives included establishment of 18 lab schools which are focusing on innovative teaching techniques and improving learning outcomes.

“Hybrid learning and ICT tools prepared students for competitive exams. Other efforts included crop diversification, mushroom cultivation, organic farming, and dairy units,” it reads.Earlier, Greater Kashmir reported that the students at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Bomai Sopore developed a School Voting Machine (SVM) in their Atal Tinkering Laboratory (ATL) established in the school.

This innovative project, developed jointly by two students Madiha aims to revolutionise the process of holding school elections by ensuring error-free voting. Notably, since the launch of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, the innovations have been given major focus which aims at providing a platform to the students to execute their innovative ideas.

“The NEP-2020 seeks to provide all learners in the age group of 3-18 years with access to high-quality education to create an educational system that is rooted in Indian culture and has the potential to establish India as a global knowledge superpower,” the survey reads. It reads that the NEP-2020, seeks to revamp the universe of school education to generate better learning outcomes for all.

“The gravity of the emphasis on learning can be felt in the various reports highlighting the gap between class standard and learning level, which has widened since COVID,” it reads.
