Bandipora, Sep 17: The District Wushu Championship for Bandipora, organised under the aegis of the Wushu Association of J&K and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, concluded at Salvatore International School, Shilvat Bandipora.

The two-day event, which began on September 15, saw participation from approximately 270 boys and girls representing various institutions and clubs within the district.

The championship was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, who served as the chief guest. He was joined by SDPO and SDM Sumbal, along with Padma Shri awardee Faisal Ali Dar as honored guests. The dignitaries emphasized the significance of Wushu, highlighting its positive impact on youth development and its potential to guide participants towards personal and professional growth.

Haya Qazi, chairperson of Salvatore International School, stated that hosting the event aimed to broaden engagement and provide equal opportunities for youth from different areas within Bandipora. "Our broader objective is to address social issues by offering constructive activities and creating pathways for future generations," she said.

The championship's conclusion was presided over by Chief Education Officer Dr GM Puju. As a sport prioritised by the Government of India, Wushu has enjoyed considerable success in recent years. The top performers from this district championship will advance to compete at the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory level competition.
