Bandipora Police crack online fraud cases, recover Rs 5.50 lakh

Bandipora, Jan 15: Bandipora police have successfully resolved online financial fraud cases worth Rs 5.50 lakh and recovered 19 stolen smartphones valued at Rs 3.5 lakh, officials said Wednesday.

While providing the details, DySP headquarters Bandipora, Lateef Khan said, "Cyber cell Bandipora received a lot of complaints in 2024, and acting on it, the cell did a good job of recovering money and cell phones from fraudsters."

He said two phones were recovered from Chandigarh while one more was on the way from Jammu, which was recovered from there.

The officer said that people should remain alert and requested victims to report cyber-related crimes and online financial frauds at www.cybercrime.gov.in and on toll free number 1930. He said victims can also report at nearest police centers or at cyber cell at district police headquarters.

The officers said the district police has also achieved a "significant success" in containing drug related crimes by registering 77 FIR's and arresting 96 persons. Moreover, two immovable properties or residential houses and six movable properties have been attached under "financial investigation."

He said four bank accounts were also frozen in this regard.

The officer said under NDPS acts, the police had detained 15 persons "under preventive custody" who were involved in different types of illegal drug related activities.

In just the first fifteen days of 2025, the officer said they have filed eight commercial cases related to drugs, "which was a good development" for Bandipora police for its anti-drug operation.

He said five chargesheets were filed in police station Bandipora and three in subdivision Sumbal.

The officer said they have a humble request to parents to "supervise" their children and "observe their behaviours, movements and friends circle," to prevent them from these activities.
