Bandh observed in Teryath against Reasi attack

Locals demand army camp, proper medical services

Rajouri, June 10: Locals including traders, civil society members,political leaders and former PRIs of Teryath tehsil areas of J&Ks Rajouri district observed a bandh after yesterday's attack on Shiv Khori pilgrims at Kanda in Reasi district.

Nine person including seven pilgrims lost their lives in this attack while 43 others were injured.

The attack site is located eight kms away from Teryath, which is last area of jurisdiction of Rajouri district, and locals of this area were first responders who reach the site yesterday evening and started rescue operation.

The protest lasted for day long hours at Teryath Chowk with locals also kept main chowk Teryath blocked.

Locals including Former Sarpanch Bushan Uppal, Former Sarpanch Vinod Bazal and others demanded establishment of a new army camp in the area for safety and security of people as the area is densely populated but without army security cover.

"This entire area is without proper security cover as the army camp that was located here was removed almost two decades ago," said locals who further stated that a sense of insecurity is prevailing in the area after yesterday's attack.

The locals said that many encounters and other terror incidents have happened in the 50 square kilometre areas in last one year but there is no army camp for safety of people.

Locals further said that after yesterday's incident, injured pilgrims were brought in CHC Teryath but there was no medical facility available for them and even locals have to arrange medicines and other medical equipments from chemist shops of area and some locals having training of medical field administers stitches and other blood loss prevention aids to pilgrims amid unavailability of staff.

" Our protest is based on two simple demands that include establishment of a new army camp and provision of proper medical facilities in hospital of the area,” Vinod Bazal, Former Sarpanch of Galhan Teryath said.

Later, Tehsildar Teryath visited the site and discussed the issue with protesting people assuring them that senior officers of district administration will visit the area on Tuesday and will have detailed deliberations on their demands.
