Bab-ul-Sultan-ul-Arifeen to be Srinagar’s gateway
Srinagar, Feb 25: The project, titled “Construction of City Gateway with Artistic Calligraphy Landmark Gate at Rainawari Chowk,” aims to enhance the aesthetic and cultural identity of the locality through the development of an architecturally significant gateway.
The advertised cost of the project is Rs. 130 lakhs, while the allotted cost stands at Rs. 116.58 lacs. The work is scheduled to be completed within 210 days, with the targeted completion date set for August 2026.
As per the approved scope of work, the project includes the complete design and construction of the gateway. The structure will have a clear span of 21 feet 6 inches, a total width of 71 feet, and a total height of 30 feet. The substructure will comprise reinforced cement concrete (RCC) foundations, including excavation and plain cement concrete (PCC) work. The superstructure will consist of a primary RCC frame featuring three large support abutments (pillars) connected by a structural arch/beam. The architectural finishing will include high-quality Maharaja brick cladding on all exposed RCC surfaces, intricate CNC-cut WPC jali (lattice) screens, and custom Islamic panels carved using CNC technology on WPC. The structure will also feature two decorative wooden domes at the top, finished with Jafri work Deodar shingles and ornamental brass finials, adding to its visual and cultural appeal. Ancillary works under the project will include paving with paver blocks and cobble pavement in the immediate vicinity of the gateway, along with architectural illumination comprising floodlights and decorative fixtures to enhance the structure’s prominence during evening hours.
The project will be executed by the PW (R&B) Division Srinagar (Core), Safakadal, Srinagar, Kashmir. The construction of Bab-ul-Sultan-ul-Arifeen is expected to serve as a significant urban landmark, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and architectural traditions of the region while contributing to the beautification and infrastructural development of Rainawari Chowk.
