Azad welcomes ECI's decision to reschedule poll date

Rajouri, May 1: Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday welcomed the decision of Election Commission of India (ECI) to reschedule the poll date in Anantnag Rajouri parliamentary seat.

He said that all the political parties are happy over the decision but few are not showing it and rather issuing contrary statement.

Azad was addressing a press conference in Rajouri on the sidelines of his visit to campaign for partys' candidate. He said that Anantnag- Rajouri is a unique constituency in itself and MP from this area will be representing both the provinces and thus can be called as an MP from Jammu and Kashmir.

"We requested ECI to postpone voting on this seat and this demand was also put forth by many other political parties," the DPAP Chairman said adding that ECI has taken the decision now which is a welcome step.

"Weather conditions are adverse and people are getting affected with it and there was dire need to reschedule the poll date which has been done," Azad said.

"All the political parties are happy over this decision as everyone is affected with weather adversities and closure of Mughal Road. But few among these are issuing contrary statement and not expressing their happiness." he said.

Azad also said that polls in Jammu and Kashmir are pivotal as there is no elected government in UT for last several years and people are eagerly waiting to elect their representatives.

"More important for J&K are assembly polls instead of these Lok Sabha polls," he said adding that DPAP vows to end the grievances of people and is getting support from all quarters of life.

Earlier Azad led a road show in Rajouri town in which other senior leaders of party and contesting candidate of DPAP for Anantnag- Rajouri seat, Mohammad Saleem Parray, senior leader RS Chib, Ashok Sharma, Zahid Sarfaraz Malik, Sushil Sharma were also present.

This road show passed through different areas of Rajouri town.
