The new branch was formally inaugurated by MLA Tanvir Sadiq in the presence of Gowhar Mohammad Sheikh, Cluster Head of Axis Bank, and Noushad Ali, Branch Head.

Speaking at the inauguration, MLA Tanvir Sadiq highlighted the strategic location of the new branch. “Opening an Axis Bank at this central point is very important. This road connects to Soura, Ganderbal, and Jamia Masjid, making it an ideal location to serve the community,” he said.

The MLA praised the bank’s expansion efforts and emphasised the significance of bringing banking services closer to residents. “This is what I call successful banking – reaching people’s doorsteps. I hope that instead of 25 branches, it becomes 50, and eventually 100,” Sadiq added.

He particularly commended the bank’s Cash for Gold initiative, noting it would provide residents with access to urgent cash when needed. “It’s a good initiative for someone who wants ready cash or urgent cash,” Sadiq remarked.

“The downtown area, known for its vibrant handicraft industry including Pashmina, shawls, and other artisanal products, will particularly benefit from improved banking access. It’s a hub, a tourism hub. There are many people here involved in handicrafts who both earn and spend,” the MLA said.
