Awareness programme on drug de-addiction held in Bandipora

Bandipora, Feb 29:  In a concerted effort to combat the growing issue of drug addiction, a mega awareness programme on drug de-addiction and counseling was organised on Thursday at the ICDS Centre in Ashtangoo Ghat in Bandipora district.

The event, held under the NMBA Action Plan, brought together the District Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC), District Administration Bandipora, Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, and the Implementing Agency-JKSWM.

The event was held under leadership of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Shakeel ul Rehman Rather, and guided by District Social Welfare Officer Bandipora, Sahir Majeed, a spokesperson said.

The gathering included students, ICDS workers, ASHAAs, Social Welfare Officials, and local youth. Speakers addressed various aspects of drug addiction during the day-long event.

Showkat Ahmad, PC, DDAC, Bandipora, provided an overview of the drug addiction scenario in Bandipora. Shabnum Shaban, Counselor, DDAC, shared her first-hand experiences with drug victims, discussing signs and symptoms of addiction.

Jawahar Ahmad, ORW, emphasised the critical role of teachers, frontline workers, community members, and students in addressing this issue.
