Awareness on safe, judicious use of pesticides held in Shopian
Shopian, Aug 5: To educate farmers on responsible pesticide use and its role in protecting human health, crops, and the environment, the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Srinagar, in collaboration with the Horticulture Department, Zone Zainapora, Shopian, organised an awareness programme at Reshipora village.
During the session, the Assistant Plant Protection Officer highlighted the risks of indiscriminate pesticide use and underscored the importance of adopting safer, sustainable pest management practices.
Horticulture Technician-II also addressed the gathering, encouraging farmers to follow best horticultural practices for long-term productivity and sustainability.
A live field demonstration was conducted to showcase the correct method of pesticide application, with a focus on using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits. Farmers received hands-on training to ensure their safety during pesticide handling.
Local farmers participated enthusiastically and expressed their intent to apply the knowledge in their farming practices. The programme concluded with a call to promote safer pesticide use and sustainable farming across the region.
