Ramban, Dec 31: Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police, National Highway, Ramban, Rohit Baskotra Tuesday in a special advisory on New Year’s Eve advised the people to “maintain road discipline and avoid their journey in case of bad weather.”

The Traffic Police Headquarters National Highway, Ramban has issued this special advisory for the people and vehicle operators, in order to ensure hassle free vehicular movement, as well as safe passage to the people visiting to celebrate the parties in connection with the ensuing New Year.

SSP Baskotra said, “Given the New Year celebration, the people are expected to celebrate the parties with great hustle and bustle in different hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars and other places especially in the major towns and cities. It is expected that there will be a huge rush of participants and tourists in such locations, especially during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday to celebrate the New Year 2025.”

On this account, he advised the people to maintain road discipline and avoid their journey in case of bad weather.

“Avoid drunk driving; use of mobile phones; stunt biking; triple riding; under age driving and overloading for safety and security of the commuters,” he said.

The SSP advised people and commuters not to plan journeys towards landslides, shooting stones and other mudslide areas, especially on the highway, and in other hilly terrains of district Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar.

Drivers have been asked to ensure safe transportation of commuters.

The SSP asked vehicle operators to follow traffic rules and regulations strictly including speed limits, traffic signals, road signages, and pedestrian crossing while driving.

“Always wear seat belts, crash helmets and other safety gadgets while driving. People travelling on hilly snow areas are advised to fix anti-skid chains, preferably in all tyres or in cross be affixed,” it was advised.

“So park your vehicle in case of any exigency at the safer places (free from shooting stones, landslides) available nearby without hampering the routine traffic. Deal and cooperate politely with the traffic officers or officials deployed for duty,” the advisory read.
