Avalanche warning issued for eight districts of Jammu & Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 17: Authorities on Saturday issued low danger level avalanche warning for eights districts of Jammu & Kashmir, advising people living in respective areas to avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) in a fresh advisory said, “Avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2200 meters over Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts in next 24 hours”.
It advised people living in these areas to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) had forecasted an extended wet spell in J&K from Saturday night till February 21 afternoon.
The forecast includes moderate to intense Western Disturbances affecting the region from February 17 afternoon onwards, leading to the likelihood of light snow in isolated higher reaches towards late Saturday night.
The MeT had also issued an advisory cautioning about the temporary closure of roads in higher reaches and important passes due to the weather system.
