Srinagar, July 26: Authorities have extended support to endeavour of Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) to restore the glory of urban twin lakes of Gilsar and Khushalsar in Downtown.

NLCO Chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo today held meetings with the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohuidin Bhat, IAS, in their respective office chambers. “The meetings were productive. Both officials assured all possible help and committed to removing any bottlenecks towards the sustained conservation of these water bodies. I express my gratitude for the time and support of both officials despite their busy schedules. I hope that the LG administration will expedite the revival of the lost glory of these twin urban lakes, ensuring a brighter future for our tourism industry,” Wangnoo said.

“We must understand that tourism is heavily related to restoration of our water bodies which is not only vital for the environment but also has a direct impact on tourism. Reviving these lakes will enhance the natural beauty of our valley, attract more tourists, and boost local businesses. And the urban twin lakes of Gilsar-Khushalsar demand our attention

To achieve our goal of sustained conservation of Gilsar-Khushalsar, it is crucial that we prioritise restoration measures, particularly connecting drains and restoring traditional navigation routes at the earliest. This will require prompt action from the competent authorities, who have yet to take ownership of these orphaned lakes,” Wangnoo added.
