Authorities clear all priority roads in Shopian, Pulwama
Shopian, Dec 29: Following a heavy snowfall in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts, authorities on Sunday cleared all the roads in both the districts.
A heavy snowfall over the last two days clogged all the streets and thoroughfares in twin south Kashmir districts, affeciting the movement of people.
The authorities began the snow clearance operations as soon as the snow started accumulating on the streets.
By Saturday evening, around 85 percent of both the priority 1 and priority 2 roads had been cleared in Shopian district, while 95 percent of these roads were cleared in Pulwama district.
According to an official, in Pulwama district, the action plan included 241 roads, totalling a length of 686 kilometres. Similarly, in Shopian district, the action plan covered 207 roads, with a total length of 552 kilometres.
Abdul Rehman, Assistant Executive Engineer ( Mechanical Division) told Greater Kashmir that all the roads, both P1 and P 2, were cleared on Sunday.
Another official said that the snow clearance operations on the heritage Mughal road were going on at full throttle.
“ From the Shopian side, we have made the road motorable up to Dobijan”, he said.
According to the official, the high altitude Peer Ki Gali had received around 4 to 5 feet of snow.
The low-lying area of Shopian district had received around 12 to13 inches of snow while the upper reaches recorded 2 to 3 feet of snow.
The plains of Pulwama district received 7 to 9 inches of snow while its high-altitude areas recorded a snowfall of 1 to 1.5 feet
