Authorities act against encroachments to decongest Sopore roads

Sopore, Sep 9: A massive traffic enforcement drive was carried by a joint team of J&K police in collaboration with the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), Tehsildar Sopore and other concerned departments in Sopore town on Tuesday, to streamline vehicular movement and ensure road safety. During the drive, 68 vehicles were challaned including wrong parking, driving without documents, and other irregularities.

Officials said the initiative was aimed at decongesting the main market areas where frequent traffic jams cause inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians.

In addition to traffic violators, shopkeepers were also instructed not to install or display their goods outside their shops on roadsides, as it creates obstruction for both vehicles and pedestrians.

During the drive, strict instructions were also passed on to vehicle owners, urging them not to park their vehicles along the roadside, as it creates unnecessary obstruction for commuters and causes frequent traffic jams in the busy Sopore town. Shopkeepers were also directed to keep their goods and merchandise within the limits of their shops instead of displaying them on pavements or along the main roads.
