Srinagar, Dec 10: With the IPL 2026 auction just days away, Jammu & Kashmir’s in-form fast bowler Auqib Nabi has emerged as one of the most closely watched players in the pool. According to the sources, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have shown clear interest in signing the J&K pacer, with both teams expected to enter aggressive bidding for the 26-year-old at the Abu Dhabi auction on December 16.

Auqib, who has been one of the standout performers in this season’s BCCI domestic tournaments, is widely regarded as a strong contender for an IPL debut.

“Both KKR and Delhi Capitals have discussed his name internally, and their scouting units have closely followed his recent domestic outings,” a source familiar with the development said. “The management believes Auqib adds value not just as a new-ball bowler but also as a lower-order striker.”

Auqib Nabi’s Case Strengthens With Exceptional Domestic Form

The right-arm seamer has been in red-hot rhythm this year, delivering consistent spells in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and producing breakthroughs in the Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy. His control at the death, ability to move the ball under lights, and improved bowling speeds have placed him among the most reliable pacers of the domestic circuit.

In addition, Auqib’s batting has shown a notable upward curve. Often coming in at No. 7 or No. 8, he has chipped in with valuable late-order runs, something franchises heavily factor into their auction strategies. Analysts and observers believe his all-round credentials further make him an appealing target for sides like KKR and DC, both of whom are actively on the lookout for multi-skilled Indian players to strengthen their middle floors.

Eight Players From J&K Shortlisted, Three Already Retained

J&K has a strong presence in this year’s IPL roster with eight players shortlisted for the auction. They include Auqib Nabi, Abid Mushtaq, Nasir Lone, Atif Mushtaq, Waseem Khanday, Vivrant Sharma, Qamran Iqbal and Ashwin Murgan.

Additionally, three J&K players have already been retained: Abdul Samad by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Umran Malik by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Yudhvir Charak by Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Abid Mushtaq: Another Strong Contender

While the spotlight is on Auqib, Abid Mushtaq is another J&K player generating interest among mid-table franchises. Known for his quick, economical left-arm spin, Abid has consistently restricted runs in the middle overs and has proven to be J&K’s breakthrough specialist in domestic tournaments.

His ability to bowl tight lines and complete overs rapidly makes him a captain’s delight in T20s. Abid’s batting, too, has evolved; he has shown the ability to accelerate, clear the field, and provide the much-needed finishing touch in tense chases. His all-round capabilities make him another possible pick on auction day, particularly for franchises looking for Indian spin-bowling depth.

Nasir Lone: J&K’s Young All-Round Hope

Nasir Lone is viewed as a potential surprise pick. The young medium pacer has delivered highly economical spells in this year’s SMAT, consistently hitting disciplined line and length and keeping batsmen in check. His calm temperament under pressure has stood out for J&K this season.

With the bat, Nasir has the potential to produce handy cameos and can rotate strikes and finish games, and these qualities can make him attractive to franchises searching for multi-skilled young players who can grow within the system.

A Big Auction Day Awaits J&K Cricket

With 11 players, including three retained, heading into IPL 2026, this season represents one of the strongest ever representations of Jammu & Kashmir in the league. While the final auction outcome remains to be seen, early indications suggest that Auqib Nabi may finally get his IPL breakthrough, with KKR and Delhi Capitals leading the race.

Abid Mushtaq and Nasir Lone, too, carry strong outside chances, backed by their solid domestic credentials and all-round value.
