Attack on non-local driver in Shopian | OGW arrested: Police

Srinagar, May 3: The J&K Police arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) in connection with last month’s targeted attack on a non-local cab driver in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The driver was critically injured in the attack.  The arrest marks a crucial breakthrough in the investigation, highlighting the authorities’ commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order.

“With a significant development in the investigation of the Padpawan attack case at Danish Resorts, Police in Shopian along with 44 RR of the and 14 Bn of the CRPF made a noteworthy breakthrough at Chotipora with the recovery of six AK-47 rounds, and two cell phones besides arresting the OGW,” Police said in a post on X.

The attack on April 9, which occurred at the Danish Resort in Heerpura along the Mughal Road, left Singh critically injured and raised serious concerns about the safety of non-locals in south Kashmir.

The incident occurred in the morning when Singh was ferrying tourists through the scenic routes that connects Kashmir with the Rajouri and Poonch districts of Pir Panjal region.  The attackers, opened fire at Singh, leaving him with severe injuries.

In response to the attack, a joint team comprising J&K Police, Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles, and CRPF’s 14 Bn launched a thorough investigation.  Their efforts led to a significant breakthrough with the arrest of an OGW suspected to be associated with terrorists responsible for the attack.
