Kupwara, Nov 9: Atletico FC Kupwara clinched the Police Martyrs Football Tournament title today, defeating JFC Wavoora 1-0 in extra time at the Sports Stadium, Government Higher Secondary School Kupwara.

The tournament, organised by Kupwara Police under their Civic Action Programme, saw Atletico FC and JFC Wavoora advance to the finals after successful runs through pool matches and semifinals.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani, who presided over the prize distribution ceremony, said, "This tournament honors our brave police martyrs who sacrificed their lives for national security. It also serves as a platform to engage youth in positive activities, steering them away from harmful influences like drugs."

Additional Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Deputy Superintendents of Police from Headquarters and DAR Kupwara were among the senior officers present at the event.

Anti-Drug Campaign Launched

Following the tournament, District Police Kupwara organised a drug awareness rally and signature campaign, led by SSP Ghulam Jeelani Wani. The rally, which drew significant participation from students, public, and police officers, began at Regipora Chowk and concluded at Old Chowk Kupwara.

Participants carried banners and raised anti-drug slogans throughout the march. The event culminated with a signature campaign where attendees pledged to maintain a drug-free lifestyle.

Speaking to media later, SSP emphasised the devastating impact of drug abuse on youth and society. "We need collective effort to combat this menace," he said, urging parents, teachers, and community members to remain vigilant and guide youth toward healthy lifestyles.
