At Parliamentary Standing Committee meet, Ruhullah calls for direct railway connectivity to Kashmir
Srinagar, July 16: National Conference (NC) senior leader and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Lok Sabha segement, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Wednesday empahsised Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways to enhance direct railway connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir.
He expressed these remarks during a meeting of the Parliament Standing Committee on Railways held in Srinagar.
The MP stressed that the expansion of the railways network must be undertaken responsibly, with a commitment to protecting ecologically sensitive zones and local settlements, particularly in the Kashmir region. He highlighted that special attention must be given to safeguarding the area’s walnut, almond, and apple orchards from irreversible damage.
The Srinagar MP also called for the introduction of goods train services with subsidised freight rates for apples, to support local growers. He highlighted the need for railway crossing facilities in various areas to improve access and safety.
