Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla awarded national quality certification by NHSRC under LaQshya
Baramulla, Nov 10: The Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has been awarded the prestigious National Quality Certification under the LaQshya (Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative) by the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), an institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
This recognition places the Baramulla hospital among the country’s top-performing public health facilities committed to improving maternal and newborn care. The certification followed a detailed external assessment conducted on September 29, 2025, by a team of empanelled national assessors.
During the evaluation, the hospital’s Labour Room and Maternity Operation Theatre (OT) were assessed on various quality parameters and achieved outstanding scores — 92.83 percent in the Labour Room and 89.50 percent in the Maternity OT — surpassing the required benchmarks for certification.
Officials from the NHSRC commended the hospital team and the J&K National Health Mission for their commitment to ensuring safe, hygienic, and respectful maternity care. In an official communication (No. NHSRC/CU/23-24/JK), Dr R.K. Pathni, Advisor (QPS) at NHSRC, congratulated the state health team and advised the hospital to sustain its quality standards by addressing recommended areas of improvement and submitting a continuous enhancement plan.
The LaQshya initiative aims to improve the quality of care during childbirth and enhance patient experience by strengthening maternal healthcare delivery in public hospitals.
Medical Superintendent of the Associated Hospital, GMC Baramulla, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, congratulated the staff for the achievement, terming it “a proud moment for the institution.” He credited the success to the guidance of Principal GMC Baramulla, Prof. Dr Majid Jahangir, and the collective efforts of the entire hospital team.
“This certification reflects our commitment to providing quality maternal and newborn care and motivates us to continue striving for excellence,” Dr Masoodi said.
