Assault on construction workers in Ramban not terror attack: Police

Ramban, Jan 2: Police today said the assault on four lane tunnel construction workers of Maroog-Digdool tunnel was not a terror attack but was the handiwork of local youths seeking jobs.

Police said on the written complaint of management of Himachal Pradesh based construction company Nirmaanbirdi a case FIR number 1 of 2024 under sections 126(2),/115(2), /351/352/351(3), 191(2) BNS has been registered at Police Station Ramban.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Kulbir Singh told reporters that it is the handiwork of some locals who seek jobs in the company. There is no terror angle in this incident, he said.

He said an investigation is underway and persons involved in the attack are being identified. SSP said eight persons were rounded up for questioning and all attackers are locals. He said strict action would be taken against whoever is involved in this incident. He said tunnel workers need not to panic.

Some employees of a construction company had suffered injuries in an attack on a bus that was carrying them to tunnel construction site Maroog in Ramban district late Tuesday evening. Following which eight local people were detained for questioning.

Meanwhile, security has been increased at all four lane construction sites between Nashri and Banihal in Ramban district.
