New Delhi, July 14: Former President Donald Trump was targeted in an apparent assassination attempt during a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred on the evening of July 13, around 6:15 PM, when an attacker fired multiple shots from an elevated position outside the rally venue.

Trump, the leading Republican presidential contender, described hearing a “whizzing sound” and feeling a “bullet ripping through skin” as he addressed the crowd. Video footage shows Trump dropping to the ground and later standing up with blood visible on the side of his face.

The assailant, armed with a rifle, reportedly positioned himself on a nearby rooftop before the attack. According to a witness who spoke to the BBC, the man was seen crawling on the roof moments before the shots were fired.

The Secret Service responded swiftly, neutralizing the shooter at the scene. The attacker was shot and killed by a member of the Secret Service. Unfortunately, the attack resulted in the death of one spectator and left two others critically injured.

In a statement, the Secret Service confirmed the details of the attack: "During former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the evening of 13 July at approximately 6:15 PM, a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue. US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and former President Trump is safe. One spectator was killed, and two spectators were critically injured. This incident is currently under investigation, and the Secret Service has notified the FBI."

Following the incident, Trump expressed his gratitude to the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for their rapid response. In his first comments post-attack, he stated, "Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead." He concluded his remarks with a heartfelt "GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
