Q: My cough worsens in winter but I don’t have fever. Is it an infection?

A: Not always. Cold air and air pollution frequently irritate airways. If there is no fever or colored sputum, antibiotics are usually unnecessary. Consult your doctor.

Q: I feel chest tightness when I step outside in cold air. Should I worry?

A: Cold and polluted air can cause chest tightness, especially in seniors and asthma patients. Persistent or severe symptoms need medical advice.

Q: My joints ache more during winters. Why does cold worsen joint pain?

A: Cold stiffens muscles and joints and reduces blood flow. Keeping warm and doing gentle indoor exercises helps.

Q: More often I feel mild pain in my left calf muscle area at night time (bed time), stretching legs, warm compressions gives some relief. What actually causes it?

A: Night-time calf pain is usually due to muscle fatigue or electrolyte imbalance. Relief comes from stretching, warm compressions and drinking 2–3 liters of warm water daily. Nutraceuticals like magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and omega-3 can help if not contraindicated for you. ORS 200 ml morning and evening for a few days is beneficial. Also quit smoking if you smoke.

Q: I get frequent headaches in winter. What could be the reason?

A: Dehydration, poor ventilation, indoor smoke and inadequate sleep are common winter headache triggers.

Q: I feel dizzy and nauseous while using bukharis. Is it normal?

A: No. These are warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. Ensure proper ventilation and never use heating devices in closed rooms and when you are asleep.

Q: Can kangris cause health problems apart from burns?

A: Prolonged exposure and if it has half burnt charcoal, can cause breathing difficulty, headaches, and carbon monoxide toxicity.

Q: I get constipated every winter. What should I do?

A: Reduced water intake and low fiber diet are common causes. Drink warm water and eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Q: Is it safe to ignore constipation if there is no pain?

A: No. Chronic constipation can worsen piles, anal fissures and bowel health. Address it early.

Q: Why do I feel more tired and sleepy in winter?

A: Less sunlight, low activity, dehydration and vitamin D deficiency commonly contribute to winter fatigue.

Q: Should I take antibiotics for winter cough “just in case”?

A: No. Most winter coughs are due to pollution or viral infections. Unnecessary antibiotics increase resistance and delay recovery.
